Roller blinds for a workspace: less glare, a view outside

A desk by the window is lovely until the sun lands on the screen. Start with when the glare arrives and where you sit, then look at roller-blind fabrics and colours.

Photograph the window when the glare bothers you

If the glare starts at two in the afternoon, an eight-in-the-morning photo will miss the problem. Photograph the screen and window from your seat, hiding any private screen content before sharing. Say whether keeping a view of the balcony matters or you mainly need comfortable working light.

Sometimes lowering the blind across the sunlit area helps; sometimes the fabric needs reconsidering. Looking at the actual conditions first can avoid choosing a blind so opaque that you spend the working day with the lights on.

Try screen fabric if the view matters

Screen fabric has an open weave that allows some light and outward visibility. The close-up here shows that kind of surface. Try the actual sample at the window and return to your desk to check the screen; showroom light cannot reproduce your room’s sunlight.

An openness figure describes the open area of the weave, not a percentage of heat reduction. Openness, colour and fabric construction all affect the result. A light or dark colour alone cannot establish which sample provides better heat control.

Think about the room after dark, too

Screen fabric can allow views into a lit room after dark. If the workspace is in a bedroom or faces a neighbouring home, discuss an additional privacy layer or a suitable opaque fabric. The blind needs to work after the laptop closes, too.

Blackout and screen fabrics serve different needs. Even with blackout fabric, fitting gaps at the sides and top need attention. Tell Hiên whether the priority is glare, privacy or darkness for rest; each calls for a slightly different discussion.

Take time with the colour of a large fabric panel

In the bright-room photo, pale blinds sit quietly beside the sofa and walls. If your desk and shelves already bring plenty of colour, a plain fabric is worth trying. Compare it beside the desk in sunlight and under your task light.

Include the handle, the open window and the intended roller position in your photos. A compact blind still needs space for its cassette, tube and controls. Fully open inward-opening windows before agreeing where it will sit.

Use and care for the fabric you choose

At handover, try raising and lowering the blind and ask for care instructions for the exact fabric. Roller blinds are not universally suitable for soaking or washing; coatings and mechanisms need appropriate care. Send your window photos and the troublesome time of day so Hiên can suggest which sample group to explore.
